The Easyjet Stansted to Basel service got the gig again although
we had thought about the new Darwin Airlines service from London City to Bern Belp, but you can't beat £4.99 for a flight can you! A half fare railcard at Basel and we
were soon pulling into Wilderswil station, a five minute walk from our appartment.

Went to see the Magical Oberland film which has additional underseat projection. You really

Saturday 18th February 2006
Saturday morning is Infotourist morning at Radio Beo. A little retail therapy in Interlaken, and then off to Bern to see the bear pits which after 500 years will no longer home the bears (read about their exciting new home), continuing to the cathedral and the Bern 3d show.
Walk walk walk and the shortest tram ride ever!

Our dear friends Mike and Rosemarie

Sunday 19th February 2006
What a muck up! Saxeten was having a festival but we waited at the wrong bus stop! So
took the train to Wengen, hired sleds, took the cable car to Mannlichen, and found the walk to Kleine Scheidegg closed. The very stormy
Guggi Fohn wind stopped us sledging to Holenstein, and closed the train service Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg, so back down
the route we'd came and back to Interlaken.

Just off Wengen main street

Below the Lauterbrunnental

Below a sad farewell to the BLM funicular, the oldest of the mountain
transportaions, which ceases operation at the end of the 2006 winter season to be replaced by an aerial cableway
from Lauterbrunnen to Grutschalp.

Monday 20th February 2006
Up at 6 and the train to Grindy. Snowing on arrival. Hired ski kit
for CH. Endured an absolutely heaving packed bus to Bodmi (complete with grumpy bus driver), but Catherine got her long awaited
first ski lesson. Swimming then train to Interlaken.
What were these doing on SPB tracks at Wilderwil?

Tuesday 21st February 2006
The walking day! Walked to Interlaken Ost across the airfield, saw piles of debris from Brienzersee. Train
to Thun. Walked city walk. Train back to Interlaken West, walked back to Wilderswil through Rugen woods. Went to see Mike and Rosemarie at the studio,
and Catherine fell asleep! Ahhhh!
Please don't throw that at me Catherine!

The view out over the Thunnersee from Schadau

At Wilderswil, the point where the Saxebach joins the lutschine from Grindelwald and
Lauterbrunnen..... peaceful once more!
Below, sitting on the end of Interlaken runway, are huge piles of wood and debris,
all of which was pulled out of the Lake Brienz following the floods...the plans were to use it in the community
heating system at Wilderswil, but it turns out it can't be burnt because alot of the debris is treated.
